WHAT IS POLITICAL ABOUT ART? CAN, SHOULD, MUST ART BE POLITICAL? OR JUST NOT? OR IS ART POSSIBLY ALWAYS ALREADY POLITICAL?
APPROACH
In the course of our expedition to documenta 14, we dealt with the tension between “Arts and Politics” in our Conversation. Alexander Koch – curator, author, gallery owner and cultural strategy consultant – showed us the political nature of art and addressed the structural perspectives in which art, as part of social practice, can develop a politicality that extends beyond individual works and their viewing. Using the example of d14, we were able to (controversially) play through such a perspective for once.
